What’s Next?

What’s next when it comes to economic stimulus packages? Will we find out too late, again, that we didn’t put enough provisions on the stimulus packages we’ve already doled out? Will another American company be deemed “too big to fail” and need public assistance?

Will the trillions of dollars in promised economics stimulus funds begin to work their way into the American economy – the so-called “Main Street” of America? Will the Obama administration be able to ramp up quickly and distribute funds to states, counties, cities, and towns in time to avert another Great Depression (which, by the way, lasted more than a decade).

Will job losses begin to subside as some of the stimulus money reaches average American businesses and workers? Or will job losses continue to mount as fear grips the nation, and everyone takes a defensive economic posture?

Will trillions more need to be borrowed and printed to completely flush the toxic assets from banks and stem the steep decline in housing prices brought on by a foreclosure frenzy?

Will the stock market settle down or will it continue to show unprecedented volatility and a steady downward slump?

Will the global financial community band together to solve this worldwide crisis or allow America to flounder unaided?

None of these questions can be answered, by anyone, with any degree of certainty.

Only time will tell if all of these various economic stimulus packages – some well-thought-out, others implemented on the fly – wend their way into the nooks and crannies of the American economy.
